Level 3 of 3Results in 5 daysBone & mineral metabolism panel
Sample: Blood
Your bones are living tissue that is constantly rebuilt, and that work depends on a team: vitamin D to absorb calcium, phosphorus to build bone with it, and parathyroid hormone (PTH), which decides how much calcium is taken from your bones or stored in them. This panel reads the whole team in one draw: 25-hydroxy vitamin D, calcium and albumin, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, an enzyme that rises when bone is being remodelled, and intact PTH. It suits people over 50, women around menopause, anyone with a family history of osteoporosis, and people on long-term vitamin D, calcium or steroid treatment. Before you add another bone supplement, see how the whole system is working.

- Vitamin D (25-hydroxyvitamin D, calcidiol): The form of vitamin D your body stores, built up from sunlight on your skin, food and supplements. It shows whether your levels are enough for your bones, muscles and immune system, and whether supplements are working.
- Calcium: The most common mineral in your body, stored mostly in your bones and teeth. The small amount in your blood keeps your muscles, nerves and heartbeat working, and your body holds it at a very steady level.
- Albumin: The main protein in your blood, made by your liver. It keeps fluid inside your blood vessels and carries hormones, nutrients and medicines.
- Phosphorus (inorganic phosphate): A mineral that works with calcium to build your bones and teeth, and helps your cells use energy. It shows how well your body, and especially your kidneys, keep your minerals in balance.
- Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP): An enzyme found mainly in your liver and your bones. It's read together with your other liver markers.
- Intact parathyroid hormone (PTH): A hormone made by four tiny glands in your neck, next to the thyroid, that keeps the calcium in your blood steady. It shows how well your body is balancing calcium, and it's usually read with calcium and vitamin D.
