Persistent tiredness has several common causes that can be found in the blood: low iron, an underactive thyroid, raised blood sugar, and changes in kidney or liver function. Because the symptoms overlap, checking one cause at a time can take weeks. This panel measures your blood count and ferritin for anaemia and iron stores, TSH for thyroid function, glucose, creatinine, eGFR and the main salts for kidney function, ALT and GGT for the liver, calcium and albumin, and ESR as a general marker of inflammation. It suits anyone who has felt tired for several weeks, wakes up unrefreshed or runs out of energy by mid-afternoon. Before you add a third coffee, check the usual reasons behind the first two.

- Complete blood count (CBC): Complete blood count: red cells, white cells, platelets.
- ESR: Inflammation rate - how fast red cells settle.
- Ferritin: Shows how much iron your body has stored. It can also rise when your body is dealing with inflammation.
- TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone): The pituitary's message to the thyroid, rising when the thyroid is underactive and falling when it is overactive. The thyroid sets the pace for metabolism, energy, weight and mood, and it also affects the menstrual cycle and fertility.
- Glucose: The amount of sugar in your blood. It shows how well your body manages sugar, and it's usually measured after fasting so the result is easy to compare.
- Creatinine: A waste product your muscles make every day as they use energy, which your kidneys filter out of your blood and send into your urine. Because its level rises when the kidneys filter less, it is the starting point for calculating eGFR, and it can also go up with high muscle mass, a lot of red meat, intense exercise or not drinking enough water.
- eGFR (Glomerular Filtration): A calculated score of how well the kidneys filter waste per minute. More precise than creatinine alone.
- Sodium: The main salt in your body fluids. It helps control your water balance, and your kidneys keep it at a steady level.
- Potassium: A mineral your muscles and heart need to work properly. Your kidneys control how much of it stays in your blood.
- Calcium: The most common mineral in your body, stored mostly in your bones and teeth. The small amount in your blood keeps your muscles, nerves and heartbeat working, and your body holds it at a very steady level.
- Albumin: The main protein in your blood, made by your liver. It keeps fluid inside your blood vessels and carries hormones, nutrients and medicines.
- ALT (GPT): An enzyme found mainly in your liver. It's one of the most direct markers of how your liver is doing.

- GGT: A liver enzyme that reacts to alcohol and some medicines. It helps explain your other liver results.
