Sample: Blood and urine
A full blood test is the closest you can get to a complete general check-up in one visit, and the General Health Panel is built that way. It looks at your liver in detail, your kidneys from four angles, and your cholesterol, blood sugar, iron and blood cells, so a thorough yearly picture of your general health arrives in the same report. If you're not sure which blood test to choose, this is the one we'd point you to.

- 1. Come in fasting (12 hours). You can drink water. Keep taking your usual medication unless your doctor says otherwise. Bring your confirmation and an ID.
- 2. Bring a urine sample or pee at the lab.
- 3. Bring the first urine of the morning.
These are general recommendations. Check the preparation for your tests with your doctor.
- Sample: Blood and urine
- Results in2 days
- Fasting12h required
- ESR: Inflammation rate - how fast red cells settle.
- Complete blood count (CBC): Complete blood count: red cells, white cells, platelets.
- Total Protein: All the proteins in your blood, including albumin and the antibodies that defend your body. It gives a general picture of your nutrition and your liver.
- Albumin: The main protein in your blood, made by your liver. It keeps fluid inside your blood vessels and carries hormones, nutrients and medicines.
- GGT: A liver enzyme that reacts to alcohol and some medicines. It helps explain your other liver results.
- Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP): An enzyme found mainly in your liver and your bones. It's read together with your other liver markers.
- Creatinine: A waste product your muscles make every day as they use energy, which your kidneys filter out of your blood and send into your urine. Because its level rises when the kidneys filter less, it is the starting point for calculating eGFR, and it can also go up with high muscle mass, a lot of red meat, intense exercise or not drinking enough water.
- Total Cholesterol: All the cholesterol in your blood. Your body needs it to build cells and hormones, and it's read together with LDL, HDL and triglycerides.
- HDL Cholesterol: The cholesterol carried back to your liver to be cleared. Higher levels are generally a good sign.
- LDL Cholesterol: The cholesterol carried from your liver to the rest of your body. When it's high, it can build up in the walls of your arteries.
- VLDL Cholesterol: Carries triglycerides through the blood. Elevated VLDL is a cardiovascular risk signal on top of LDL.
- Triglycerides: The most common type of fat in your blood, used by your body for energy. They rise after a meal, so they're measured after fasting.
See all 22 markers
- Atherogenic risk (TG/HDL ratio and non-HDL cholesterol): Two numbers worked out from your cholesterol results. The TG/HDL ratio hints at small, dense LDL particles, and non-HDL cholesterol adds up every particle that can clog an artery. Both help your doctor judge heart risk beyond the single LDL figure.
- AST (GOT): An enzyme found in your liver and your muscles. It can rise when either is under strain, including after hard exercise.
- Total Bilirubin: A yellow substance made when old red blood cells are broken down, then cleared by your liver. Some people naturally have slightly higher levels.
- ALT (GPT): An enzyme found mainly in your liver. It's one of the most direct markers of how your liver is doing.
- Glucose: The amount of sugar in your blood. It shows how well your body manages sugar, and it's usually measured after fasting so the result is easy to compare.
- Uric Acid: Uric acid - gout risk and metabolic health.
- Serum Iron (Sideremia): How much iron is circulating right now. Not the same as ferritin - this is the immediate snapshot, not the stored reserve.
- Urea: A waste product your liver makes from protein. Your kidneys remove it from the blood. Paired with creatinine, it gives a fuller picture of kidney filtration and protein metabolism.
- Urinalysis: A general check of your urine, including protein, blood and glucose. It shows what passes through your kidney filters that normally stays in your blood.
- eGFR (Glomerular Filtration): A calculated score of how well the kidneys filter waste per minute. More precise than creatinine alone.
If you're going to give blood once this year, make it count. We built this selection so you don't have to guess which tests belong together, and every result comes with the laboratory's reference range, so you can see straight away what looks good and what deserves a closer look. It all comes from a single morning: one blood draw and one urine sample.
What's included in this full blood test
The General Health Panel brings together sixteen tests from one blood draw and one urine sample, grouped here by the part of your body they look at.
Liver, from every side
ALT (GPT), AST (GOT) and GGT show how the liver cells themselves are coping, while alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and total bilirubin show how well bile is flowing and how your body is clearing old red blood cells. Total protein and albumin add the liver's other big job, which is making the proteins that carry nutrients and hormones around your body and keep fluid where it belongs.
Kidneys, in depth
Creatinine and eGFR show how well your kidneys filter your blood, with eGFR estimating how much they filter per minute based on your creatinine, age and sex. Urea adds a second filtration marker that also reflects how much protein you eat and how hydrated you are, and the urinalysis looks at your urine chemistry and sediment for protein, glucose, blood and signs of infection.
Cholesterol and blood sugar
The lipid profile covers your cholesterol and triglycerides, which are read together to look at cardiovascular risk. Glucose shows how your body is managing sugar, and uric acid, linked to gout and kidney stones, adds another view of your metabolism.
Blood, iron and inflammation
The complete blood count looks at your red cells, white cells and platelets, serum iron shows how much iron is circulating in your blood, and ESR is a general marker of inflammation somewhere in the body.
Why these markers work better together
Your organs don't work in isolation, so the results are most useful side by side. Serum iron appears in the same report as your haemoglobin and red cell size, which links the iron you carry to the cells that use it. Liver enzymes appear next to bilirubin and albumin, which connects strain on the liver with how well it keeps up its daily work. Your blood and urine results for the kidneys complete each other, and your lipids, glucose and uric acid together describe how your body is handling what you eat and drink.
What a full blood test adds to a basic one
Our Basic Health Profile covers the core: a blood count, inflammation, glucose, cholesterol, three liver enzymes, creatinine, uric acid and a urine test. The General Health Panel goes further in three places. For the liver, it adds ALP, bilirubin, total protein and albumin, so you see how bile flows and how well your liver produces proteins as well as whether its cells are under strain. For the kidneys, it adds urea and an eGFR estimate of how much they filter each minute. And it adds serum iron, which brings energy and red blood cells into the same picture as everything else.
That's why it's the panel to choose when you want one thorough check of your general health in a single visit.
Who this full health check is for
This panel suits you if you want a thorough yearly check-up, if your last full blood test was years ago, or if you've just arrived in Spain and want a complete set of results from the start. It's a natural choice when you've been feeling more tired than usual, when you train hard or follow a specific diet such as vegetarian, vegan or high-protein, or when you simply want results you can compare year after year.
If you have a specific question, such as thyroid, vitamin D, ferritin or hormones, those tests can be added to the same blood draw.
How to prepare
Fast for 8 to 12 hours before your blood draw, as glucose and the lipid profile are included, drinking only water and in normal amounts. Collect your first urine of the morning in a sterile container from a pharmacy and bring it with you, keep taking your usual medication, and let the lab know what you take. If you have your period, leave the urine sample until a few days after it ends.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I get a full blood test in Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid or Málaga?
With Diagnostic Station, a blood testing service in Spain, you can get the General Health Panel in Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid and Málaga without a GP referral. You buy it online and go to one of our partner labs: in Barcelona and Madrid during collection hours, and in Valencia and Málaga with an appointment. It's one of our most complete check-ups, covering your liver, kidneys, cholesterol, blood sugar, iron and inflammation, with a urine test in the same visit.
Is a full blood test worth it?
If you want one test that covers most of your general health in a single visit, it usually is. Ordering liver, kidney, iron, cholesterol and urine tests one by one takes more time and planning, and this panel brings them together in a combination designed to be read side by side.
Does a full blood test check iron levels?
Yes, this one includes serum iron, the iron circulating in your blood, alongside your red blood cells and haemoglobin. If you also want to see your iron stores, ferritin can be added to the same blood draw.
Can a blood test check kidney function?
Yes. This panel checks your kidneys through creatinine, eGFR and urea in your blood, plus a urinalysis, which together are the standard way to look at how well the kidneys filter.
What is eGFR in a blood test?
eGFR stands for estimated glomerular filtration rate. It's calculated from your creatinine, age and sex to estimate how much blood plasma your kidneys filter each minute.
What does bilirubin show in a blood test?
Bilirubin is a yellow pigment made when old red blood cells are broken down, and your liver clears it into bile. Measuring it shows how well that clearing process is working.
